Biography
Pablo Zamora Mata is a Costa Rican conductor recognized for his commitment to musical excellence and education. He currently serves as Assistant Conductor of the Austin Symphony Orchestra under Music Director Peter Bay, where he leads multiple performances each season across the pops, education, and family series. His upcoming engagements include his Masterworks Series debut with the Austin Symphony Orchestra in October 2025.
Zamora Mata’s recent and notable guest conducting appearances include performances with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra (October 2024), the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (October 2023), the National Symphony Orchestra of Argentina (October 2023), the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica (May 2023), and the University of São Paulo Symphony Orchestra. He has also been engaged as Cover Conductor for the National Symphony Orchestra of the USA for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, and is slated to cover the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in April 2026 under Giancarlo Guerrero.
A passionate educator, Zamora Mata has mentored young musicians through roles with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Atlanta Music Project, Costa Rica’s National Honor Orchestras, and, most recently, as Guest Conductor of the Sewanee Music Center’s Cumberland Orchestra for the 2025 season.
His dedication to musical development extends to major international initiatives such as Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra programs—serving as Orchestra Manager for NYO-USA’s 2024 South American tour and NYO2’s 2023 Dominican Republic tour—the Dudamel Foundation’s Encuentros Festival, the LA Philharmonic’s YOLA National Festival, the Carlos Miguel Prieto Fellowship with the OAcademy, and the Sphinx Connect Conference.
Zamora Mata has studied with esteemed artists and educators including Marianne Ploger, Catherine Larsen-Maguire, Molly Turner, Sarah Ioannides, Ligia Amadio, Marin Alsop, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya. He is an alumnus of the University of Costa Rica (B.M. in Conducting) and a 2024 MBA graduate in Arts Innovation from the Global Leaders Institute.
